NZ On Air will fund 34 new music projects from its April Making Tracks funding round. The 34 projects were selected from a field of 93 applications.

Fourteen are $10,000 grants for recording a song and making a music video to back up the release of the song and 20 are $6,000 grants for making a music video only.

Decisions are based on the broadcast, music and audience merits of the songs that have been submitted. The independent panel for the April round included Aaron Hawkins (Radio One), Matt Gibb (TVNZ U), Leonie Hayden (Rip It Up), Nick Atkinson (Radio New Zealand National), David Saunders (Christchurch Jazz School), Andrew Buckton (Studio 203)

Through a partnership with media, entertainment and production company MCM Media, VEVO finally launches in Australia and NZ.

The site is currently available in the US, UK and Canada, and generates over 3.3 billion video streams worldwide each month. NZ users of vevo.com will be able to stream a catalogue of more than 45,000 music videos from major music companies: Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment and EMI Music among others.

Through the arrangement, VEVO will work out of the Aussie-based MCM office with local producers and programmers focusing on local content. Promos for Kiwis acts The Naked & Famous and King Cannons have already featured on the homepage this week.

Honestly, it's about time. NZ and AUS are so behind when it comes to social media.
