Moesha Star Dies
So sad. Such a talented blessing.
Sadly, actress Yvette Wilson, 48, has died. The cause of death is cervical cancer. The Moesha star, who played alongside Brandy, as Andell Wilkerson passed away Thursday. She is the fourth star from the show to die. Co-stars Bernie Mac, Merlin Santana and Lamont Bentley are also deceased.
Actress Shar Jackson was the first to break the news on Twitter. Hours before Wilson's death, she sent a series of tweets asking for prayers.
"Everyone plz send prayer and light to my sister and best friend Yvette Wilson. I need my prayer soldiers right."
In a later tweet, she gave the dismal news:
"Oh God. My heart is soooo unbelievably broken. I wanna thank all my tweeties for their prayers but God has chosen to take my sister Yvette home."
Wilson had been undergoing treatment for late-stage 4 cervical cancer. Along the way, she battled kidney failure. However, in recent months, she experienced difficulty meeting the costs of her cancer treatment. Online efforts to attract financial donors raised about $14,000.
Wilson played the bubbly star Andell Wilkerson in the '90s sitcom. However, the Moesha star is also credited for roles in the UPN spinoff of the show, The Parkers. She also appeared in House Party 2 and 3, Russell Simmons' Def Comedy Jam and Ice Cube's Friday.
Bernie Mac who played Moesha's Uncle Bernie, an Emmy and Golden Globe nominated actor and comedian, died suddenly of complications from pneumonia in 2008. Lamont Bentley, who played Hakeem Campbell in Moesha, died in a 2005 car accident. Wilson's other co-star, Merlin Santana, who starred as Ohagi, was killed in a 2002 murder.
Brandy mourns:
So saddened by the loss of Yvette Wilson. She was such a beautiful spirit. May she rest in peace.
Brandy's mother, Sonja Norwood, comments on my picture of the four cast members that have passed:
You have to shed a tear especially when you've worked with great people such as these. They were truly genuine people and had love and respect for others.
While Yvette has died from her cancer battle, her legacy will live on. Rest In Peace Yvette.xxo
